Enjoy Art In St Ives
Many people come to St Ives for its art: either to visit the galleries, take home a piece of art, or to paint or draw their own pictures. Tate St Ives (reopening Spring 2017) has a wonderful collection from the St Ives School as well as a changing exhibition programme. The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is one of the town’s real surprises – visit Hepworth’s studio and gardens and see her remarkable work in situ.
If you want to get your own brushes out, The Garrack’s garden has inspirational views across the Atlantic and town! However, if you’d like some guidance, book into the St Ives School of Painting. Nearby Barnoon Workshop offers a fantastic programme of workshops for artists of all ages and ranges, and is great for family activities.
From the Garrack you are mere bootsteps away, one of the best stretches of the 600+ mile path takes you along spectacular cliffs towards the pretty village of Zennor. Once there, take a break at the pub or cafe before retracing the 6 mile journey back to The Garrack, or make it a circular route by returning along the inland “Coffin Path”.
This is quite a challenging section of the coast path, so if you want a more relaxed constitutional, try heading eastwards towards Carbis Bay, where the path is paved. There are some stunning views across St Ives and the bay from here – and you can always take the lovely branch line train back into Porthminster Beach.
The Penwith peninsula is narrow at this point, and you can cross from Carbis Bay to Marazion (home of St Michael’s Mount) or Penzance on the 12-mile St Michael’s Way. Divert up Trencrom Hill for some of the best views around – and if you don’t fancy the 12 mile return walk, pick up a bus from Marazion or Penzance.
Enjoy Garrack Gift Vouchers
They say that happy memories make the best presents. We agree. Time spent relaxing with loved ones in a beautiful environment is a wonderful gift, especially for busy people.
Which is why we’d like to make a present suggestion. Have you thought about giving a Garrack gift voucher as a present? Available in any amount, they can be exchanged for food, drink and accommodation in our welcoming hotel.
Here are some examples of what you can spend your gift voucher on at The Garrack. Just £30 will buy afternoon tea for two at Quarterdeck Terrace Bar, overlooking St Ives Bay, or you could take tea in the cosy lounge by the fire. £40 lets you upgrade to a champagne tea!
Alternatively, a £20 voucher will pay for your drinks at a meal in our AA Rosette Awarded restaurant; and £50 would treat two people to a delicious dinner. Give a Garrack gift voucher as a family gift, which could be spent on a slap-up Sunday roast followed by a free swim for the kids in our indoor pool.
For a truly special present, a £150 voucher would pay for a night’s bed and breakfast at The Garrack. A gorgeous gift for a couple who love St Ives (and even better if it’s for your partner, as you’ll get to enjoy the present too!).
