We didn’t find too much in the way of traditional Cornish Christmas games which was a shame. We did, however, know that in the Pubs around Cornwall cards where very popular.

Cornish Carol Services

Across Cornwall Christmas will be in full swing soon, and Chruch services will take place. One of the biggest Christmas services will come from Truro City’s Cathedral carol service.
This wonderful Cathedral comes alive over Christmas carol singing and extra large candles and lots of visitors.
late night mass is also be held late into the night, for those that can stay up to see it. From the Garrack Hotel and Restaurant, the Truro cathedral is only a 20-minute drive and well worth an evening trip.

During the Christmas period most plants will have died off, but the “Holly” across Cornwall will be perfect for Christmas decorations.
Set out with red berries, they look great dotted around many locations across Cornwall. Alongside the abundance, mistletoe can also be found growing wild in the trees and also found in the marketplaces around Cornwall.

Most county s have some sort of foods that are specially created over Christmas and Cornwall is no exception. At this time of year, Cornish producers put together some of their very best foods, and they can be found all over the county.

A well known Christmas Cornish drink is GIN maybe you would like to try a Cornish Gin over Christmas. Maybe the St Ives Gin company GIN. Also on offer is the usual mulled wine which always goes down a treat, lightly warmed by an open fire at the Garrack Hotel and Restaurant.

Cornish Christmas Traditions

Its a Cornish tradition very often on boxing day to have mass boxing day swims. We swim are mostly only wearing simply swimming costumes and a Christmas hat. The young and the old all join together to rush into the sea sometimes followed by the pet dog. This time of year the Cornish waters are truly very cold, a rush into the sea is very refreshing.
