Days out with children in St Ives
You’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to beaches; however for families, Porthmeor (the first beach you reach)
and Porthminster have the best facilities. Go surfing or try the latest water sport, stand up paddleboarding (SUP).
Or, simply bring your bucket and go rockpooling for tiny crabs and darting shrimps.
On those relaxing “at home” days, enjoy a drink and a book at The Garrack’s poolside Cafe Bar while the kids splash in the indoor pool.
If they’re still full of beans after a swim,
the fantastic playground at neighbouring Ayr Holiday Park is a great place to use up some energy,
and there’s a games room for damper days.
Check our events programme for child-friendly parties.
As well as its stunning beaches, there’s lots for families to enjoy in St Ives.
The Tate (re-opens Spring 2017) runs some great family programmes; and on rainy days,
nearby Barnoon Workshop lets children (including big kids) have a go at a great variety of sea-themed and other art and craft activities.
One of the (many) lovely things about West Cornwall is that there’s a rich seam of attractions all very close together.
The beautiful St Michael’s Mount, fascinating Geevor Tin Mine, and the spectacular Minack Theatre
are all short drives away from St Ives. For younger families,
Paradise Park in next-door Hayle is a splendid day out (definitely a firm favourite with smaller children,
with its combination of animals and soft play). A straightforward trip up the A30 takes you to the world-famous Eden Project and its sister attraction, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, which are both great places for families.
Please get in touch if there’s anything we can do to make your family holiday at The Garrack as relaxing and as fun as possible; or if your family has any special requirements, just let us know how we can help.
