Out and about in St Ives
There is plenty to do out and about in St Ives from beaches to restaurants whether visiting as a family, a group of friends or on a couples get away.
The beaches are a big highlight of the area with golden white sands and crystal clear waters as far as the eye can see. Locations such as Porthmeor and Porthminter both have beautiful beach side Cafes with top notch food and ocean views. Carbis Bay is another famous favourite with a convenient train station stop up the road and car parking.
The popular Carbis Bay is right on the beach and offers gorgeous food, friendly service and stunning views. Also, on the beach is Ocean Sports Centre where you can hire Stand Up Paddleboards, canoes and kayaks or join in a safari adventure with guides round some of the most iconic coastal locations.
Hit the local Beaches
If making the most of the sea is your kind of adventure head up the road to Gwithian and Godrevy beaches. A long expanse of white sand looking over the iconic Godrevy lighthouse you could easily spend the whole day there. Godrevy Café, Rockpool and Sunset Café are all available for refreshments and a walk to the top of the cliff will normally reward you with spotting seals in their natural environment. For the more active and adventurous can find Shore Surf School and Gwithian Academy of Surfing to help you whatever your experience level.
We highly recommend using the train to get into the centre of the town but also as an exciting adventure for all the family. It takes in stunning scenery and get you to the middle of town. The main station is conveniently next to Porthminster beach and is just a short 5 minute walk to the shops and harbour.
Grab a St Ives bargin
The main shopping street offers most of your popular high street and outdoor stores but specialises in small, individual local shops where you can find some really unique keepsakes to remember your holiday by.
The shops are just a quick, easy stroll away from the beautiful St Ives Harbour. Along with the picture postcard boats, lighthouse and harbour wall you will also find some fantastic places to eat with treats such as fish and chips at Harbour Fish and Chips, ice creams at Kelly’s of Cornwall, Jus’ Desserts or Willy Waller’s Ice Cream Factory and not to forget a traditional Cornish Pasty from one of the many, many local producers.
